In order to get control of your website you need to have full control of two things:
- The website hosting and all the files, including the content of the site (text and pictures), and
- The domain name (the url, or web address) for the site.
In order to control the website in item 1, you need to have:
- the login details for the site hosting account. This should give you access to not just the main host account where all the bills are paid for the hosting, but also a thing called FTP access, the cpanel (control panel).
Login details include:
- the web address for the login page
- the username
- the password
In order to have full control of the domain name you need the similar set of login details for the domain name registration.
Some web hosting packages include the domain name registration with the package so both of these will be the same login. However if the domain name has been registered separately with a domain name registration company, then it will be a separate set of login details.
Both the hosting and the domain name registration should be listed under your name (your organisation , business or club)
